About Me

}

I've been building for the web since around 2000, when "building for the web" meant opening Notepad and pressing F5 in Firefox.
A lot has changed since then. Most of it for the better. Some of it debatable.

Milo

I'm a PHP Application developer based in Cardiff. Working from home - with Milo.
I've worked for a global company, a Government, a Quango, an Education provider and an Agency.

These days I work for Zonal, (previously High-Level-Software) building and integrating cloud-based web services for the hospitality industry. APIs, Integrations, Cloud services... It's the kind of work where the details matter and the edge cases are endless.

This site has been running in some form since 2000 — same domain, various rebuilds. It started as a place to experiment, turned into a portfolio, and is now mostly just here because I'd feel odd without it.

I have been known to take on the occasional project. Bespoke web applications for businesses that need something specific rather than something generic. Most of the projects I've taken on have come through word of mouth from people I already know. That's probably how it'll stay — I'm not a agency, just someone who builds things properly.

For quite a few years I taught PHP and MySQL at Cardiff University. Teaching adults to code — people who chose to be in that room — was a different experience to anything else I've done professionally. Most students arrived nervous. Most left with something they were proud of. That matters. I miss it, occasionally.

Outside of work I'm usually found on a building site that used to be a house, washing my car or out on the Hayabusa. Cardiff suits me — big enough to have everything, small enough that you keep bumping into the same people.
